Library Policies Information

Check-Out Policies

  • Students may check out up to 4 books at any time during the school week or during scheduled classes.
  • Books are checked out for 2 weeks at a time.
  • Magazines and reference books may be checked out overnight.

Overdue Notices Procedure

  • Students are unable to check out materials if there is an overdue material on the account and/or there are fines totaling more than $1.00 on the account.
  • Overdue books generate fines when they are more than 5 days late. Students may volunteer time to be applied toward fines or the cost of lost or damaged books. Volunteering time takes place after school at the discretion of library staff.
  • Overdue notices are sent weekly to student Gmail accounts and are printed at least two times during each quarter.

Patron Privacy and Confidentiality

  • Our patrons’ (staff and students) records are kept private and confidential.

Lost and Damaged Materials

  • Students should report damage to library materials as soon as they notice the damage. This will allow the library staff the opportunity to get the material repaired and prevent the patron from being charged for the damage..
  • Patrons will be charged for replacement cost for materials lost or damaged beyond repair. The cost for each lost or damaged item will be the replacement cost of the item. If the material is found and returned, the patron will be refunded the price of the material minus the accrued fine.
  • Payments can be made by cash or check.

Using the Library

  • The library media center is a place for learning. Students are expected to be on task and working quietly.
  • Food, candy, and beverages are not allowed.
  • Students who disrupt the working environment of the library or labs will lose the privilege of using the media center.

Computer Usage

  • Students are encouraged to use the computers for academic purposes during school hours.
  • Students may play only librarian-approved games after school. However, if another student needs to use a computer for academic purposes after school, library staff may ask the student playing games to log off in order to free up the computer.
  • Students using computers for purposes outside the district technology policy will receive appropriate consequences, such as the loss of computer privileges.

Faculty and Staff

  • Teachers may request books on specific topics for use in their classrooms during units of study. These books will be pulled by the library staff, checked out to the teacher, and placed on a cart to be picked up at the library by the teacher.
  • Teachers are responsible for all books on the cart and are encouraged to keep the books in their classroom and not permit students to remove them from the classroom.

Library Printer

  • Stay green as much as possible! Please print assignments only if absolutely necessary.
  • Whenever possible, please share or email your work electronically with your teachers.
  • If the printer jams or runs out of paper, notify a library staff member.

Donation of Library Books

  • All donations are welcome; however, donation items must meet the selection guidelines set forth by the librarian. The librarian holds authority on all donation materials and must meet the standards for all materials selected to be housed in the library media center.

Challenged Materials Policy

  • The teacher-librarian selects both print and electronic materials with input from the staff and is carefully reviewed using professional literature.
  • The library endeavors to provide a wide and varied collection that contains something for students of all reading levels, and that supports the intellectual, social, psychological, and emotional development of its students.
  • It is understood that not everyone may agree with the selection of materials in the library; therefore, the district provides any individual the chance to challenge selected materials. Please refer to the board policy.
